Senior Backend Engineer

Salary Range: $160K - $200K + Early-stage equity

About the role:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll own the systems that power Pync’s real-time biometric platform—from device data ingestion to the APIs that drive the consumer experience. You’ll work close to the hardware and close to the user, building infrastructure that needs to be fast, reliable, and intelligent.

This role is for an engineer who thinks in systems, takes full ownership, and wants their work to matter to real users and their pets.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement scalable APIs and event-driven backend services
• Own real-time IoT data pipelines from device to cloud
• Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams on data ingestion and processing
• Own cloud infrastructure for reliability, scalability, and observability
• Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering best practices
• Ship with quality and speed in a high-ownership environment
  

We’re looking for:

• Loves pets and animals, and wants to help shape the future of pet care together with the team at Pync
• 5+ years shipping production backend systems end-to-end
• Strong fundamentals in APIs, event-driven architecture, and microservices
• Experience with IoT protocols, device-to-cloud messaging, and embedded data pipelines
• Hands-on with real-time data streaming and processing at scale
• Solid relational database design and optimization skills
• Comfortable owning cloud infrastructure: compute, databases, messaging, and observability
